Compress Image to 500 KB

Haikit can reduce a photo to under 500 KB, for free and in your browser. Add your image and it finds the sharpest quality that still fits. Around 500 KB is a good target for blog and website images that should load quickly.

Questions

How does Haikit get an image under 500 KB?

It tries different JPG qualities and keeps the sharpest one that fits under 500 KB. If the photo is very large, it also reduces the dimensions slightly. The result usually lands a few KB under the target.

Which format should I use to reach 500 KB?

JPG or WebP. PNG files keep every pixel, so they cannot be reduced to a target size. Haikit saves as JPG by default for this reason.

Is compressing an image to 500 KB free?

Yes. You can edit one image at a time for free, as often as you like, with no sign-up. Paid plans add batches of up to 50 images and larger files.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your file stays on your device and is never sent to Haikit's servers.
